Beyond Religion

A podcast about unconfined spirituality.
What happens when we move beyond the boundaries of traditional religious expression into the wild mysteries of spirituality?

Season One Premiers Spring 2023
  • What is unconfined spirituality beyond religion? Meet Elizabeth Lott (that’s me!), a Christian pastor by training and ordination, curious seeker and evolving mystic in practice.

Krista Tippett has said religion is as cup and spirituality is as water. What happens when you set down the cup and set out for the water itself? What happens when you decide to dive into the whole big thing instead of protecting the cup-full?

I’m bringing in a lot of friends for Season One to talk with each and every one about what happens when we set down the cup and dive in, together. From Icelandic elves to home bartending to a former pastor healing from the pastorate, we’ll be honest and weird and true. I hope you’ll join us. All the way in.

Getting Started

  • Suzanah Raffield is Baptist Minister turned Home Bartender—Co-owner Camp Craft Cocktails, she’s focused on slower sips, longer tables, and practicing the art of gathering. She may just be the very best at hospitality of anyone I know.

Y’all. Suzanah is the real deal. We’ve known each other for roughly 23 years, and each year brings a new depth and beauty to our friendship. She’s been living this bold life for a long time now and inviting everyone to come join her in the free and wild spaces beyond what we once thought was the whole entire world.

We talk old Baptist life, new entrepreneur life, marriage, wisdom, friendship, renouncing shame, outgrowing old tropes, and taking big chances.

Top Episodes

  • Meet Dr. David Robinson-Morris, Ph.D.— Founder of the Center for the Human Spirit and Radical Reimagining. He’s also my dreamy, dreamy soul friend. I’m so lucky I get to know him, and now you do, too. More formally:

Given Dr. Robinson-Morris' extensive work in DEIA and academia, he has come to understand that more important than knowledge or money or power is the imagination.

Leaning on the philosophies of Ubuntu and Buddhism, Dr. Robinson-Morris understands the mind that got humanity into our current mess is not the same mind that will get us out of it. Thinking, being, and doing differently—together—is our escape toward collective healing and liberation.
